Actions to Consider

If you have existing systems to demonstrate management commitment and responsibility for WHS.
- Review your systems in line with the legal elements of “due diligence”.
- Make sure you have all elements covered.
- Make sure you can produce suitable records (evidence) to demonstrate compliance.
- Identify who are Officers in your organization.
- Consider using the elements of “due diligence” to develop an Officer Statement of Duties
- Develop, implement, monitor and regularly review WHS policies, procedures and processes
- Ensure Officers have a personal pro-active involvement in safety management
- Provide training to Officers to enable them to carry out these functions.
- Ensure your system is regularly audited by certified independent auditors.
If you have no safety management system in place, implement one and consider having it aligned with ISO 45001.

The WHS Act holds Officers personally liable for ensuring the business or undertaking complies with its duties.
