Why Targeted Workplace Health and Safety Training is Essential

Workplace health and safety training is essential not only for legal compliance but also for protecting the health and wellbeing of your team. Our WHS training courses help you:

  • Comply with NSW workplace health and safety legislation and meet regulator requirements.

  • Identify workplace hazards and manage risks before they cause harm.

  • Improve safety culture and reduce the likelihood of incidents or near-misses.

  • Develop clear communication and reporting processes for health and safety standards.

  • Empower employees, supervisors, and managers with the skills to create safer, more productive workplaces.

For industries like construction, certain WHS certification  may be legally required. But even in industries where training isn’t mandatory, staying up to date with best practices protects your staff and your business.

What to Expect in a Workplace Health and Safety Course

As a trusted provider of WHS training courses in NSW, we offer programs tailored to the specific legal and safety requirements of the state. For example, our White Card course prepares workers to safely enter construction sites under the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Regulation 2017.

In addition to public courses, we also provide on-site training for businesses, delivered at your workplace anywhere in NSW. This allows you to train your entire team efficiently while focusing on the unique hazards and challenges of your industry.

What’s Involved in Our WHS Training

Our workplace health and safety courses cover a broad range of topics designed to give you practical, actionable knowledge. Depending on the course, you’ll learn about:

  • Hazards – How to recognise and control risks in the workplace.

  • Communication – How to report and discuss safety issues effectively.

  • Legislation – Understanding the legal obligations under the WHS Act and Regulation.

  • Risk Management – Tools and strategies to prevent incidents and injuries.

  • Emergency Preparedness – How to respond to emergencies and support safe evacuation.

Course durations vary: for example, the White Card course typically takes just under 7 hours, while HSR training runs over five days. Each course includes assessments to test your knowledge, and successful completion leads to an industry-recognised certification.

Student Resources

At Leading Safety Training, our students are our main priority. We have an online page dedicated to Student Information that outlines your responsibilities and rights as a student. We request that all prospective students become familiar with our refund policy, appeals processes and student support resources before booking the required Work Health & Safety Course course.

Leading Safety Training are dedicated to student success and support participants with special needs. We provide a Language Literacy & Numeracy (LLN) assessment, which helps us to identify students requiring additional support to complete the course. We encourage students to contact us about special needs before course enrolment to ensure we allocate necessary resources to your training.

Student Registration

For many of our NSW courses, the Australian Government requires students to register for a Unique Student Identifier (USI), which is fast and straightforward to complete online. Students must bring their USI number to the course. Certification in the respected field will not be issued unless a valid USI is received.

Work Health & Safety Training Course FAQ

Is a WHS training course the same as a workplace health and safety course?

Yes. A WHS training course is simply the abbreviated term for a workplace health and safety course. Both refer to the formal education required to manage safety, identify hazards, and ensure legislative compliance in the Australian workplace.

What Do Workplace Health and Safety Courses Typically Cover?

We provide WHS NSW training which will go through topics such as:
